Saturday Night in WIlliamsburg: Northside Festival presents Guided By Voices at McCarren Park
We've just gotten back from the Guided By Voices show at McCarren Park. With lots of classic songs, Dayton's finest band ever was a joy to listen to, if not watch, through three fabulous encores.
On our walk to the McCarren Park ballfields, site of the Northside Festival outdoor shows, we were concerned about being followed by the teenage FBI, but actually the reverse turned out to be the case.
As we did last night for Beirut, we watched and (mostly) heard GBV from the tennis courts,
from Bedford Avenue, where someone had ripped some of the stage-hiding material,
and at the main paying-crowd entrance on Berry Street where we had a clear but distant view of the stage.
In any case, just listening to the music alone would have been enough.
